What a great match, and a great week overall for Seattle Sounders FC on both sides of the county line! Despite a despicable performance by the referee, our boys have taken home eight (count ’em eight!!) straight wins to extend the unbeaten streak to 11.

The Flounders B-Team knows how to do it right: we do a little celebration of success this week by joining Doyle’s Public House on their Designated Driver Express bus to see the KC Wizards get their wands broken by our Boys in Rave Green. Nate, Steve, and Tim are joined by a few friends, family, and fans of the show (it’s hard to tell the difference some times!) We talk about current events (Bye, Clint, say it ain’t so and so on), tactical observations & formation, and what we’re drinking. We continue the conversation on the bus, then Tim and Steve recap the match in studio.

Be sure to check out Doyle’s Public House at 208 St. Helens Avenue, right here in Tacoma, Washington for literally all of your soccer viewing and ale drinking needs.

This week’s guests are three members of Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club: Nacim, Avenir, and Erik.

Nacim is an attorney and proud social justice warrior. We also had Black Lives Matter activist and civics enthusiast, Avenir. And Erik, a functional anarchist who has previously been involved with Occupy New York. The three men who come from vastly different backgrounds (North African immigrant, midwesterner, straight, gay…) have insightful opinions and interesting perspectives.

History Lesson: John Brown was a radical abolitionist. He and his sons armed a small rebellion of escaped slaves and freedmen by raiding a federal arsenal in Harpers Ferry. Read the whole story! Oddly, they don’t seem to teach you much about him in school.

14:00 Gun abolition is dangerous–the state is not here to defend marginalized populations.

25:00 What does the John Brown Gun Club do?

27:00 How does the John Brown Gun Club really feel about the NRA?

31:00 How does PSJBC support Tacoma Against Nazis?

34:00 Is there space for persons of color to discuss firearms, learn how to use them, and maybe even shoot?

42:00 How do we navigate the conversation between gun owning and students asking for gun control?

🌟 Show Contributor Cat’s Note: “I’m simultaneously heartened by their existence and baffled by the notion of being that free with firearms.”

Cat, Steve, Tim, and Kevin jump in to provide pre-match, halftime, and post-match coverage live to tape! (Congratulations, Belgium.) Seattle faces Portscum in enemy territory. The match was a doozy, but limited disciplinary calls from Chris Penso made for a very chippy match. Portland came to play, but, true to form, their idiotic tifo definitely cursed Joey’s chainsaw.

Own-goal victory aside, we have some questions, and we try to answer them. We also have a lot of fun along the way, in true FBT style.

Special thanks to Doyle’s Public House for hosting our upcoming bus tour. Doyle’s is hands down the best soccer bar in Washington. Check ’em out on St. Helens in Tacoma for all your soccer watching needs. If you’re a fan of any team, they’ll get it on the TV for you one way or another.

Great visit from Casey Catherwood from Cheney Stadium, home of Sounders FC2, and his friend Pierce Adler!

Steve, Kevin, Tim, and Nate break down the FC Dallas game and try to make sense of the nearly unprecedented 5-win streak. Are Sounders FC going to continue on the path to glory, sitting at 10 points out of first place? Or is a big correct coming? Does this run of success excuse the sins of the past? How’s Schmetzer doing? Is Garth out of the hot seat? Who did S2 actually play on Steve’s birthday? (He doesn’t remember).

All this and more on Season 2, Episode 20 of the Flounders B-Team Podcast!
